In addition to the Apostles' Creed and the Nicene Creed, Broadway Presbyterian Church sometimes uses these statements of faith in our Sunday worship services:
Our Presbyterian Statement of Faith
In Life and in death we belong to God. Through the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit, we believe in the one triune God, in whom alone we trust.
We trust in Jesus Christ, fully God, fully human. Jesus proclaimed the reign of God: preaching good news to the poor and teaching by word and deed and blessing the children, healing the sick and eating with outcasts, forgiving sinners and calling all to repent and believe the Gospel.
We trust in God the Holy Spirit, everywhere the giver and renewer of life, who sets us free to love God and neighbor and binds us together with all believers in the one body of Christ, the church.
In gratitude to God we strive to serve Christ in our daily tasks and to live holy and joyful lives, even as we watch for God’s new heaven and new earth, praying, “Come, Lord Jesus!”
With believers everywhere in every time and place, we rejoice that nothing in life or in death can separate us from the love of God in Jesus Christ our Lord! Glory be the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. Amen.
Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted. Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth. Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied. Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy. Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God. Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you when men revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely for my account. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for so men persecuted the prophets who were before you.
A Faith Statement
This is the good news which we have received, on which we stand, and by which we are saved, that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day, and that he appeared first to the women, then to Peter, and to the twelve, and then to many faithful witnesses. We believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the Living God. Jesus Christ is the first and the last, the beginning and the end; He is our Lord and our God. Amen.
The Law of God (Ten Commandments) and the Great Commandment
I am the Lord your God.
You shall have no other gods before me.
You shall not make for yourself a graven image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; you shall not bow down to them or serve them.
You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain.
Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.
Honor your father and your mother.
You shall not kill.
You shall not commit adultery.
You shall not steal.
You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.
You shall not covet your neighbor’s house. You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, or anything that is your neighbor’s.
Our Lord Jesus Said:
You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment; and a second is like it, you shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments depend all the law and the prophets.
